There’s a blockage
In my creative artery, and I don’t know how to fix it.

It’s here! (sorta)
So…the countdown continues for some places, but thus far, Lake Louise has graced us with the infamous and glorious Wiwaxy 5000.
Opening weekend was decent, and surprisingly fun. I headed up with the regular troops, and there was some nice run-ins with a few buds.
Lake louise is more bare than I can ever recall on an opening weekend, but they did a great job of having that one slice of heaven ready for us. The temperatures were rising, and it was such a treat to have spring riding conditions in November.
Sunshine bumped their opening til next week (fingers crossed). This is the first year in a LONG time that they have pushed it. I’m sure it will be ALL worth it, though. Judging by a few shots:
So for some reason, I really don’t mind the wait. I feel like it will be a great pay off when we all invade the mountain next weekend.
I’ll be heading up to Louise again this weekend, which I’m clearly stoked on.. but for some reason, it just doesn’t compare to how my season ended. I got spoiled with the taste of the back country… and it’s all I seem to think about… however, I have managed to not turn into a “snow snob”, and I will take what I can get. It’s also the people that make the experience that much better. I have some of the best friends in the entire world, and I can’t wait to spend another season with them.
On a completely unrelated note:
Next weekend is THE WEEKEND of all weekends to be in Banff. There’s a collaboration of birthdays, and sunshine will be open! There’s about 50 of us heading to Banff. Yes. FIFTY. We’re all staying at the Inns of Banff So if you would like to take part in this ridiculously fun weekend, check out the details on facebook:

And… check out the afterparty place here:

We’re going to be shredding Saturday at sunshine, having some wobbily pops, and then an all night apres ski session starting at the hotel, followed with the sasquatch.
Just saying… if you were there last year.. then you should know.. it’s going to be an insane amount of fun!
Last years madness:

Then we’ve got Fernie on December 4th.
I am especially excited for Fernie..
this place is like a
second home to me,
and I always have the best times there, and in all the years I’ve been going there, I’ve managed to make some amazing friends. Check out the facebook page for the opening:

Good god, I CANNOT wait! I’m hoping to get in some of those
glorious powder
turns
at FWA, and K3 in Revelstoke as well.
If you haven’t been out catskiing, make sure and get your butt signed up for the “dumps and deals” on the FWA site. Basically, it’s a last minute thing, where they can throw you onto the cat for a wicked price.

Need I remind you…?
To see what we were up to last season at FWA, join the facebook page. You will also get notified about some special deals up there…

And then there was that heavenly weekend out at K3…
Check out their facebook as well to see what they were up to last season!

Anyways… I’m always buzzing around this time, and I feel like I sometimes have to justify my excitement for certain people.. but all i can say is that if you don’t understand why Im feeling like this.. then I don’t think that you’ll ever “get it”… unless you give this whole outdoor winter lifestyle a chance.
I’ve written about it time and time again:
This is my life and I love it. I won’t lie. There were times that I actually thought I was “over it”. Maybe it was the financial part, or the partying, or something… but I dealt with it, and I’ve learnt that I won’t ever be “over it”. I’m sure that things will happen in my life that might limit the amount of times i can go, but that’s it.
can’t stop, won’t stop. ever. This is so much a part of who I am.
I read my own posting from last year around this time.. and it’s true.. I feel the exact same….
http://freshbits.wordpress.com/2009/11/09/its-finally-here/
I can’t wait to do my first post after opening weekend. We’ll all be heading to Louise next Saturday for the
wiwaxy 500.
(i’ll take that
over anything!)
It seems that this year we all didn’t branch off as much… I still saw a ton of my friends that I shred with during the summer… and it was funny because it seemed that the topic, most of the times, was
“how many more days til the mountains open?”.
That’s just how we are. So… it’s back. Our weekends piling into the vehicles, with the stench of several egg McMuffins, for those that regrettably choose to consume at 8 am. The newest mash ups and mixes and 4 different people swapping iPods to hear the “dopest new track”. The forgotten mittens, stinky boots, foggy goggles… frozen noses, corduroy groomed runs, 9$ plate of fries, hugs, high fives, and the impossible task of keeping your eyes open on the drive home after a solid day…. these are all the things, all the moments, all the everythings that I miss when a season ends, and as much as I hate getting foggy goggles after bailing, or manage to get snow down my back, or take a bad fall… at the end of the day… I still don’t seem to mind.
My little winter family is back, and God knows that if the snow fell year round in the mountains, I would be a happy person.

It’s almost here….
It’s absolutely
insane
to think that in a couple months, ski resorts will be powering up the lifts, warming up the cats, probing the snow, updating sites, and cashing in on one of the most profitable pastimes out there.
If you’re anything like me, or my friends, you’ve already noticed the crispy white tips on the mountains, and the air seems to have that little brisk taste to it. Yes. The season is approaching… fast, it seems.
What normally is a somewhat balmy fall, has turned into a complete whirlwind of messed up temperatures. I threw my farmers almanac out when It snowed in August. This can mean a few things.
This can simply mean that we’re getting some early snow, or it can mean that this is just a tiny preview of what we are going to be recieving this winter from our sweet and gracious
mama nature.
(I’m rooting for option 2)
I was reading an interesting magazine article when I was camping this summer. Surprisingly it was only a few weeks ago and I woke up to minus 3, and a small layer of snow. Others woke up around me, somewhat startled by the cold temperatures, but I couldn’t be happier. It made me think of this guy who had an interview in a ski magazine I picked up. He’s out of sweden, but he had an interesting writeup about spending several years at Chamonix. He called it living the life of a skibum, and urges everyone who reads this article to get out there and do this. Upon reading it, I discovered that I am, on several levels, wanting to be a ski bum. He said the title is somewhat misleading. He said the tag “ski BUM” is in there simply because in the eyes of most from their ivory towers, this might be the case. We’re living the dream, and they are still dreaming it. It’s an envy thing, and as long as we are having more fun than them, they will bash our choices in life.
He expressed that being a ski bum, or chanelling this way of life, is all about the lifestyle, and how it can give you huge amounts of joy, life lasting experiences and memories. It is as simple as this. You just live your life the way you want to.
How easy is that? Anyways, needless to say I was inspired by his fresh take on being a ski bum, and on some level, I like to think I’m somehow part of that life. Even if it is on a weekend warrior status. (for those of you who don’t know, a weekend warrior is all of us city folk who commute to the mountains on the weekends to get a taste of what the locals get all week). I also bank my holidays so I can take them during the winter, or else surf in the summer. (which I like to think is the summer version of snowboarding…?) It could be because I already have a countdown (71 days), and I obsessively check all the sites for fresh new gear, new boards, reviews, and of course, snow reports.
I spent last weekend in Fernie, and when I drove through crowsnest, I was ecstatic to see how much snow had covered the mountains.

Anyways. I could go on and on about this, but I think you all know how i feel about it.
Bring on winter.
I’m
so ready.

things and places
So… I’ve obviously been out and about and getting up to a ton of stuff this summer. What better way to tell my story than through pictures?
First. I left my job. Then. I went to mexico (for the second time in a month)
My friend Jose and myself after a crazy hot hike to Mal Paso
The only thing different from this trip, was that I brought back some dogs……
“Little one” and “Tiago”.
When I was in Sayulita, I was put in touch with an organization that works with spay and neuter clinics in PV and the area, along with rescuing dogs from the high kill dog shelters throughout Mexico. This is a huge problem in Mexico, and it seems that no one was stepping in to create some sort of solution.
Peace Mexico www.peacemexico.org, is an incredible organization that dedicates itself to many causes, including the well being of animals. They’ve set up spay and neuter clinics almost every month, that is fueled entirely by volunteers
For more information on these organizations, check out:
You can also find info on these sites if you are interested in Volunteering. And PLEASE… if you are travelling from PV to Calgary or Vancouver Island, contact one of these organizations and we can transport more puppies to a safer and happier life! You can also contact me if you are interested in helping out, and I can send you some information. I’m happy to report that both of theses sweet un poco perritos found wonderful homes.
After Mexico, I was going through a few “changes”… so i had some time on my hands. A few trips to Fernie, a second trip to Mexico, some soul searching, and some hikes in the mountains. Got a new job, a new puppy, a new vehicle, and a new look on life.
Shooting guns at Dunn lake. One of the best places I’ve ever been.
And then there was a trip to Vancouver in there… along with Montreal… taking photos of my happily engaged friends, eating ice cream, biking in the rain, catching fish… hooking my own worm…
Surprisingly.. now that I look back on all of it.. I’ve accomplished a lot in the past few months, and had some amazing times. It’s almost weird that I’m really excited for the summer months to wind down, and prepare for the fall. It will be kicked off in classic style. Fernie Derby for September Long weekend. Followed with a stint in Vancouver. Mexico in November, along with the infamous birthday weekend in Banff, and a party weekend in Moosejaw with my Grandma for her birthday.
Life is looking good.

Where do you go? (my lovely)
3 cheers for ……... NO MERCY….
Sometimes, playing Houdini is fun! One second I’m there.. and the next…
GONE!
I’ve decided to resurrect the blog, since, well… it opened a ton of doors for me, and I had some amazing opportunities this past winter to really do some work that I LOVED! It also gives me a chance to show some of you what I’ve been up to!
Summer has been interesting, to say the least. Pseudo summer… or whatever you want to call it. I was jet setting for a little while , and then settled into a new job. I still escape almost every weekend…. Fernie, Kananaskis, Golden…. next up is Montreal this weekend, then Vancouver (Galiano Islands to be exact) for some sea kayaking and camping beside the ocean. I can’t wait. Between now and Christmas, I’ll also be heading to Vancouver (again) , and end of sept/beginning of October, heading to the big city. Nothing like Autumn in New York. Beginning of November, it looks like I’ll be transplanting myself back in Sayulita. 3 times in less than half a year. Then… it’s my birthday… and the tradition will live on. Opening weekend at Louise/invading the quiet Australian town of Banff.
Anyways, hope you’ve all had a wonderful summer thus far… and you can look forward to frequent updates! again! finally!
YAY!♥

soooo….
In the past 4 weeks I’ve been leading the life of a rockstar… but definitely not on a rockstar budget.
I was so pissed off at the weather and life that I took off to Sayulita again. It was amazing, as expected. Weather was perfect, the company was perfect (I was with my friend Kara, Ashley and my brother).
When I was down there I rescued some puppies (I’ll be doing a whole other post on that next week).
Again, it was hard to leave, and when i came back, I felt myself just starting to feel overwhelmed with the stress and pressure of “what the hell are you doing with your life, Kyla?”
It was all pressure from myself…. so I took a much needed escape to Vancouver to visit my dear friend, Theresa. Myself, T, and her friend Lisa packed up her truck with her Boxer, Rio, and hit the road for a weekend of no cell service, fishing, shooting empty beer cans, roasting beans over a fire, and drinking straight from the wine bottle…. oh and swigging fireball. gross.
Tucked about an hour away from kamloops is an amazing place called Clearwater. Past clearwater is another secret spot, which I can’t reveal in fear that people will go there.
It’s a lake…. full of fish…. and not a single person was around.
We had a boat, some rods, some worms, and a ton of wine and beer. It was seriously one of the best weekends I’ve had! Now I’m back… “to the grind”….. trying to figure out my next step.
i think this whole “self discovery” while still being partially employed is a good thing. I need the money to help buy plane tickets to get me out of here every week!
