It’s finally here…
I felt like barfing from being so excited on Friday during work. I was listening to all this uppity music and checking out the louise website and the snow report…. the season is finally here. Well… “pre” season. But it’s better than nothing.
I truly love
snowboarding.
I could ramble on and on about how much I love it, but I’ll spare you. I wrote an article for an amazing little magazine called “welikewelove”, and it’s all in there.

Within minutes of getting to Lake Louise, I was letting out these little squeals of excitement. Within moments of the first ‘real’ run, I had this giant grin on my face.

Even the excrutiating process of lacing up my boots made my heart warm up a little. There’s just something about the tedious task of painfully bending your foot to get it in your boot.
Cam has more of a harrowing process with his Thirtytwo snowboard “ski” boots. Awesome.

For opening weekend it was amazing. With a base of almost 50cm mid mountain, the conditions were delightful. It wasn’t nearly as packed as years previous, and it snowed for most of the day. Lake louise is notorious for the “wiwaxy 500′.
Imagine a clusterfuck of skiers, boarders and the odd dipshit on a snowskate, and put them on one run. Oh… and keep in mind that you’re dealing with beginners, intermediate, and experts. It can get to be a little hairy…. but you learn to work around it all.
Just be aware.. SKI and RIDE WITH CARE!

A nice little treat for most people was the little park they had set up. Although i stuck to my rule of keeping on the ground first time out (I cheated with a few huckruts), the park looks like a good time. I always lack the confidence on the first day, but managed to drag my ass to COP today with my friend Mike, and dabbled around in their park, with about 100 youngin spectators staring me down. How is it that I can feel so intimidated by a 15 year old ? Right. Maybe it’s because they totally own me in the park. Awesome.

It was a mini reunion with friends I haven’t seen almost all summer. Snowboarding is funny like that. You all shred together and party during the season, but when May rolls around… everyone sorta branches off and does their own thing. I remember at the end of last season as I was saying bye to friends, one of them said
“So… what do you do in the summer? “
It’s like we all lead this double life.
To say the least, I was stoked to see everyone again. High fives, and shout outs when they see you riding under the lift.

Tyler is really focused on something….
Oh and who couldn’t miss this….
The overpriced, sub-par poutine….
I seriously loved the drive up and home more than anything. There wasn’t a car dance party, but rather, a good pow wow with some amazing friends and stories of our summer being told. It’s kinda like when you go back to school after summer vacation. When I was in elementary we would all sit around and the teacher would ask us our favorite part of summer vacation and what we did. I can relate that first car ride up to that. Within an hour I felt like we were all caught up.
I missed it, and I’m happy it’s here again.

Garrett sums it up for everyone….

(happy. very happy)
